Liverpool looks to be interested in signing the Spanish and Atletico Madrid midfielder, Marcos Llorente who infamously knocked out the Reds from UCL a few seasons ago.
The former Real Madrid player could be a perfect heir for Jordan Henderson. After getting two of the brilliant attacking midfielders, the Reds could go for a defensive midfielder.
While there have been a few targets on their list, there seems to be a new name emerging.
Marcos Llorente on the Liverpool radar?
As per reports coming out of Spain, Liverpool are competing with Manchester United for the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente.
As per the reports, the two PL giants are battling for the 28-year-old defensive midfielder. The La Liga side are expecting an offer of around €60m to be convinced to sell the player.
The business made by Klopp is nothing short of thrilling this summer. However, there are still rumours that Henderson could possibly reunite with former teammate and captain, Steven Gerrard.
The newly appointed Saudi club’s manager is looking to sign the 33-year-old. Moreover, Thiago is also linked to many Saudi clubs.
If the rumours turn out to be true, the Merseysiders would need a backup plan. Hence, Llorente could be a great successor for the Englishman.
Will the Spaniard fill in for Hendo?
The 28-year-old has become an ‘incredible footballer’ in the eyes of football talent scout, Jacek Kulig. He ranks in the top 5% of his positional peers across the top 5 leagues for progressive carries, progressive passes received, and touches.
The midfielder also ranks in the top 25% for shot-creating actions as well. The player is an incredibly versatile all-action talent who could be the perfect utility player for Klopp.
Also, the 18-cap Spain international is experienced in several positions including defensive, central, attacking, and right midfield. He has also put in his shift making 11 appearances in the right-back position.
With that being said, a move for Llorente would certainly provide the club with an experienced and worthy heir to succeed Henderson. So if FSG could sanction a move this summer it could further improve Liverpool’s midfield presence.
