Liverpool have successfully foiled late charge from Aston Villa and Wolves in their pursuit of a transfer deal for Manu Kone. The midfielder is supposedly on the verge of joining the Reds.
Players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita & Arthur left the club this season. Although there are players like Jordan Henderson, Thiago, Fabinho, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, and others but the Reds still need to reinforce the midfield.
The Merseysiders are looking to complete their transfer business as early as possible this summer. Jurgen Klopp wants his team to be ready before pre-season and it is clear what they are after. We have seen that with the latest signing of Alexis Mac Allister.
Liverpool secured the World Cup-winning midfielder’s deal for just £35M. Although according to Sky Sports report, the deal could rise up to £55M depending on add-ons.
The Merseyside giants now have shifted their focus towards the second capture. After the success of the Mac Allister deal, the club began talks with French duo Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach and Nice respectively.
Klopp also has his eyes on Spanish youngster Gabri Veiga but he appears to be in the bottom half of Liverpool’s wanted list.
Aston Villa and Wolves upset Liverpool over a transfer deal for Manu Kone
As per a report via Daily Mail, Liverpool’s pursuit of Kone almost came under a threat after Aston Villa and Wolves showed interest in him.
The report also stated that Gladbach want £35M for the French midfielder. But Liverpool have been able to push aside Villa and Wolves while getting closer to signing Kone.
Former English striker and current pundit Tony Cascarino made a big claim about Kone moving to Liverpool saying,
“Manu Kone is one they have been looking at. It has been talked about in France that he is going to Liverpool.
That has been out there for a while.I do think they are reinventing that midfield and it was necessary.”
Most likely if this transfer goes through, the Reds will also move towards singing Khephren Thuram. Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate praised Thuram saying,
“Khephren, he’s like a younger brother, he’s someone I saw grow. I was with his older brother at academy level.
I saw him perform well and progress greatly… it was incredible.
Even when he came to join the French national team for his first cap, I saw him in training and I was really surprised by his height and his technical ability.”
If Liverpool manages to land both transfers then the new midfield trio will be a delight to watch.
