Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that star attacker Cody Gakpo is fit now and will be available for the Europa League clash against Toulouse.
The Reds secured an impressive 2-0 win against Everton in the Merseyside derby in PL last weekend.
Klopp started with the frontline of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah due to the unavailability of players. Nevertheless, the attackers played well including a brace from the Egyptian forward.
The two more attackers for the Merseyside giants, Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez and Netherlands international Cody Gakpo missed the match due to injury.
Although Darwin Nunez experienced ‘muscular difficulties’ during the international break playing for his national team, Gakpo’s injury was well-known.
The former PSV attacker picked up an injury while scoring the equalizer in the infamous PL clash against Tottenham Hotspurs. Now, the German coach has provided an important update regarding his injury status.
Cody Gakpo to play in Liverpool vs Toulouse
While speaking on the pre-match conference before the UEL clash against the French side Toulouse, the Reds manager said,
“Cody’s been in full training since Sunday, which means he’ll be available for the squad. That’s good as well.”
Since joining the Anfield giants back in January, the 24-year-old has been a crucial part of Klopp’s frontline setup.
With his ability to play on both wing and up-top and drop down to receive passes and turn, he has helped the LFC attack in critical situations.
So far in his Liverpool career, the Dutchman has scored 10 goals and assisted 3 goals, appearing in just 34 games (stats via Transfermarkt). He has been lauded as ‘special’ by the official LFC website.
Gakpo is yet to make an appearance in the UEL for the Reds. So his return could mean that he will make his awaited UEL debut on Thursday night.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
