Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has backed Jorg Schmadtke in his pursuit to sign young left-back Patrick Dorgu. The youngster will be a future prospect for the Reds.
The Anfield giants appointed the German as their new Sporting Director on a short-term deal. But the club will review the deal after the summer transfer market ends, based on the outcome of the window.
Schmadtke’s primary duty will be to bolster the midfield which has been long due. With many players leaving the club, the Merseysiders lack depth in the middle of the park. Thus, they need to sign new midfielders.
Klopp has already specified that he needs at least three new midfield signings to complete the midfield revamp.
And the work has already started with the successful signing of Alexis Mac Allister. Also, other targets like Manu Kone, Khephren Thuram, and Gabri Veiga are under the watch.
Liverpool have always been expert when signing upcoming star players. It has been evident with the signings of Sepp van den Berg, Calvin Ramsey, Kaide Gordon, and most successfully Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho.
Schmadtke to snatch Patrick Dorgu for Liverpool
According to a report via Calciomercato, Dorgu has been scouted by Liverpool on several occasions in recent months. And the source claims that the Merseysiders are ready to ‘lunge in’ for the youngster.
The 18-year-old signed for Lecce last summer from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland. Since then he has started 38 games for their second team Lecce Primavera.
Although he is yet to debut for the first-team, with fine performances throughout the season, he has earned a contract till the summer of 2027.
However, as per the report, he might be leaving Italy just after joining the Serie-A side. Liverpool will reportedly have no issues negotiating for the Danish left-back. And the club has also given the green light for this move.
The Reds have depth in the left-back position as Konstantinos Tsimikas covers up for starter Andrew Robertson.
But Robertson is now 29 and his game is very much dependent on physicality and pace. In the coming few seasons, his fitness might be in a questionable place.
If this deal goes through, the Denmark teenager will start out in the youth side for the Merseysiders and eventually work his way through to the first-team.
Dorgu has already earned his international cap for the Denmark U19s team and is seen as one of the country’s brightest prospects.
If Liverpool pulls this deal off, he will be a great future asset for the Reds.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
