Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Manchester United have missed out on the opportunity to sign Kim Min-Jae, as per a new report.
According to a new report by FootMercato, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG have been long-time admirers of the Napoli star Kim Min-Jae. All of the clubs wanted to sign the South Korean international in this summer transfer window.
But Bayern Munich are the one who will win the race to sign the defender, as per the news outlet. Bayern will have to pay Kim’s release clause of £40M to Napoli.
And they also have to pay the player, an annual salary of £8.55M per year. The source also claims that the 26-year-old himself wants to join Bayern although Liverpool and other clubs had an interest in him.
Kim Min-Jae cast aside Liverpool and Newcastle transfer possibilities
Kim Min-Jae choosing to join Bayern Munich over the Reds or Newcastle is a setback for both Premier League clubs.
However, this is not very surprising that the defender has chosen to sign for the German giants.
The Bavarians are one of the top clubs in Europe who won the Bundesliga consecutively for the 11th time this season. They also compete regularly in UEFA Champions League.
Newcastle United finished top-4 this season and qualified for UCL in next season. Manager Eddie Howe is trying to strengthen the team with new signings. The Serie-A defender was one of the targets for the Magpies.
And for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp could have used the signing as a center-back option and made the backline stronger.
The Korean defender featured in 35 Serie-A games and on average put in 1.6 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game (stats via WhoScored).
Liverpool or Newcastle United definitely would have benefited from the signing of the Korean international. But the Bavarians are clearly in the lead to sign the Kim Min-Jae.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
