Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel has spoken publicly about the incident when Jose Mourinho made Liverpool star Mohamed Salah cry during his time at Stamford Bridge.
The Anfield giants are the club with one of the most formidable attacks in the Premier League for the last few decades. But this attacking line has been the most frightening in recent years under Jurgen Klopp.
And perhaps the most exciting and remarkable trio for the Reds would be the Salah-Mane-Firmino trio. These three players in the final third of the pitch were a menace during the time they played together.
However, Mohamed Salah has had the most interesting career among the three. He started out as a young prodigy in PL side Chelsea, then moved to Fiorentina and joined Roma before finally moving to Anfield in 2017.
Although he had a great career so far, his time at Stamford Bridge, in particular, was not very pleasant. And his former teammate at Chelsea has spoken about this.
Mourinho made Mohamed Salah cry at Chelsea
While speaking on the Obi One Podcast, John Obi-Mikel shed light on exactly what happened with the Egyptian international. He said,
“He [Salah] was unlucky because Jose Mourinho, the manager at the time, didn’t take any prisoners. It doesn’t matter who you are, I remember a game away he had a go at Mo Salah at half-time and he was in tears, he was crying.
We thought he was going to put him back on the pitch but he destroyed him and brought him off but that was his mentality back then.
I don’t think he would do that now, he has become more mature, he knows how to deal with younger players, that’s how he got the best out of us then and that’s why we were successful.”
However, the 31-year-old did not let the unfortunate event affect him and only pushed him to do better.
In his return season in the PL, Salah scored 32 goals in 38 appearances and he has not stopped since then.
He has broken several club and Premier League records, winning almost every single individual and team achievement and he continues to do so.
He already is an icon at LFC and when he decides to leave, he will be remembered as a Merseyside legend.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
