Former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling has expressed that Mohamed Salah’s performance on Sunday evening against Manchester United was the worst in six years.
The Anfield giants suffered a frustrating draw against the Red Devils at their home ground yesterday. Despite all the buzz about the hosts being the favorites to win the game, the club could not find the United net.
The combined scoreline of 11-0 past two thrashing of the Manchester side made everyone believe that something similar would happen again. Moreover, the recent displays from Eric ten Hag’s side boosted the confidence of the Merseyside club.
However, none of the predictions came to fruition, as the clash ended in a goalless draw. Furthermore, the offensive line of the Reds have been under scrutiny for their poor performance.
Mohamed Salah was awful against Manchester United
Earlier reports have suggested that Jamie Carragher was infuriated with Cody Gakpo’s selfishness. Speaking on the broadcast on talkSPORT, Jeff Stelling said he was surprised with Salah’s performance,
“They need to look at themselves because Liverpool were terrible and all the headlines, Liverpool 34 attempts on goal, they didn’t didn’t have any clear-cut opportunties.
And I don’t take any pleasure in saying this because I’m a big fan, I’ve never seen Mo Salah have a worse game for Liverpool. He was so poor.”
The claim from the former Sky Sports presenter is not at all biased. Since joining LFC in 2017, the Egyptian skipper has featured in 12 PL clashes against the Red Devils.
In these 12 instances, the 31-year-old scored 10 times and assisted 4 goals. One of his career highlight performances against yesterday’s opposition came in March of this year, where the Reds annihilated Manchester United 7-0 (stats via Transfermarkt).
Even though Salah has scored 14 goals and provided 8 assists in 23 games across all competitions, his performance on Sunday was frustrating to watch. Fans will hope he makes amends for the upcoming games and redeem himself.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
