Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed on Twitter that the Frankfurt wonderkid, Jesper Lindstrom has joined Napoli, who was once a Liverpool target.
The Italian journalist has confirmed that the Danish international will leave the German club and travel to Italy for his medicals. He is set to sign for the Serie A winners on a five-year deal with a fee worth £20m.
Ekstra Bladet reported via Sport Witness that Liverpool had made contact earlier this month to sign Lindstrom. But the youngster is now set to snub a move to Anfield in order to join Napoli.
Moreover, the Reds are now also set to miss out on another target in Matheus Nunes who would be signing for Man City.
These might not be realistic signings for Klopp but missing out on targets and failing to sign them is never a good sign.
This has been the story for Liverpool this summer which started with the likes of Jude Bellingham.
Liverpool could have signed Jesper Lindstrom
The Danish winger formed a reputation and established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the Bundesliga. The 23-year-old ticks a lot of boxes for Klopp for a wide-attacking player.
He is good technically, and also fast, which makes him a great threat for the opposition fullbacks.
Moreover, he has a lot of room to develop and under a manager like Klopp, he would have been a great prospect for the Reds.
But had the Anfield club tried a bit harder, they could have beaten Napoli to sign the player. However, the Reds’ focus all summer has been in the midfield area and they have made 3 reinforcements.
While that is not enough, the Reds look comfortable enough in the first 3 games. Moreover, they are also looking at other options before the window closes.
But now with the rumours of Salah wanting to leave, the Reds are looking at players in the wing position. Although, it’s almost certain that the Egyptian won’t be leaving this summer but he might eventually will if Saudi comes calling next summer with their cashflows.
While it is difficult for any newcomer to replicate Salah’s goal-scoring record Klopp needs a signing nevertheless.
