Liverpool signed Columbian defender, Anderson Arroyo from Columbian side Fortaleza, but he is yet to make an appearance for the Reds.
The right-back impressed the Liverpool scouts back in 2018 when he was only 18 while he was at the U20 South American Youth Championship.
Arroyo is a centre-back but could also play in the right-back position and was tipped for big things at Anfield.
However, he was loaned immediately to the Spanish third-tier side, Real Mallorca for an 18-month long duration. Fast forward to the present date, there is no Liverpool fan who would remember his name.
The 24-year-old was seen as a great prospect for the Reds and had big things lined up for him. However, those never seemed to happen for the Columbian as he never got to play for the Reds at all.
He has spent the entirety of his Liverpool career out on loan, encompassing a total of 5 clubs in 5 years.
The defender has had spells at Belgian giants, Gent, Czech side Mlada Boleslav, and three Spanish clubs, Salamanca, Mirandes, and Alaves.
Arroyo: A forgotten Liverpool player who never played for the Reds
Currently, he plays for FC Andorra when he made his move at the start of this new season.
It is the club owned by Barcelona legend, Gerard Pique as they play only their second season in the Spanish second tier.
The Columbian is still awaiting his Liverpool debut and he hasn’t even played for the reserves team. Yet, he remains to be a Liverpool player.
However, Liverpool are not to be blamed for all of this as he has issues with his work permit. Arroyo is still not qualifying for his work permit which would enable him to play for the Reds.
As per Liverpool.com, he can qualify if he either plays in La Liga or breaks into the Columbian national team setup.
Although none of them have happened yet, the Reds are hopeful of the same. The Merseysiders recently handed him a contract extension which would keep him at the club till 2025.
Should he get promoted with Andorra, he could consider himself getting playtime at Anfield soon.
The possibility of Andorra making it to La Liga is also looking good. They are six points off of play-off places and currently sit in the 15th place after 11 games.
Arroyo has made eight league appearances so far in the campaign. But he has only started one of his side’s last six games in all competitions after being substituted at half-time during a 4-3 away defeat at Mirandes in September.
While speaking to Liverpool back in 2022, Arroyo said that he was hopeful of playing for the Reds.
“Liverpool have always been attentive to me while out on loan. I want to establish myself in European football and hopefully one day stay at Liverpool.”
