According to reports, Liverpool are willing to sign Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, despite interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have already made significant signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. But may need to enter the transfer market again if Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, or Thiago leave the club.
Arsenal joined the race for Lavia
Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is also a potential target for Liverpool, with interest from rival Arsenal.
While there were initial signs that Thuram would be Liverpool’s next signing, recent reports indicate that the club have cooled their interest in the defensive midfielder.
However, Spanish outlet Nacional claims that Thuram will indeed join Liverpool this summer.
Nice demand £42.8m for Khephren Thuram
Nice are reportedly demanding a fee of at least £42.8m for Thuram, which is deemed acceptable by Liverpool and Bayern Munich but deemed unacceptable by Barcelona.
Thuram is Jurgen Klopp’s top target and Liverpool are leading the race to secure his signature.
Neil Jones says
Goal’s Liverpool correspondent, Neil Jones, suggests that Liverpool are unlikely to spend more than £40m on their next signing.
“I think Lavia would be a very interesting signing for Liverpool because he plays a little bit deeper than the other midfielders who have been linked; he’s more of a 6 than an 8, or has been in his short professional career.”
Replacements for Fabinho and Henderson
The transfer market is known for its unpredictability, and Liverpool could potentially lose key players like Henderson and Fabinho.
In such a scenario, Liverpool would need to find suitable replacements and secure good transfer fees to fund a rebuild.
Should both Henderson and Fabinho depart, Liverpool would have to oversee a significant midfield overhaul, possibly involving up to seven players leaving the club.
Perhaps in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool have already taken care of Henderson’s. But Fabinho is the only senior number six at the club whose replacement is yet to be hired.
Liverpool set to buy Khephren Thuram
According to L’Equipe, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are both interested in French U21 midfielder Khéphren Thuram, who is valued at around £34m.
Thuram is reportedly content at Nice and willing to stay for another year. As he wants to secure playing time leading up to the European Championships.
However, if Henderson and Fabinho were to leave, Thuram could become a viable option for Liverpool.
Foot Mercato reports that Nice are now willing to lower their valuation of Thuram to approximately £43m, presenting a potential opportunity for Liverpool.
However, Bayern Munich are also pursuing the midfielder. He is dynamic, strong, technically sound, and can play threading passes between the lines.
He has the ability to dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and also can contribute defensively as well.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Thuram is a versatile and talented player who could thrive in Jurgen Klopp’s high-pressing style of play.
Liverpool are yet to decide whether they will pursue Thuram and bolster their midfield.
