Liverpool are close to signing the Sporting CP player, Manuel Ugarte, and are reportedly leading the race to pay the player’s release clause.
The Reds have brought in players from Portugal in the last seasons and have been decent, to say the least. The likes of Luis Diaz from Porto and Darwin Nunez from Benfica have adapted well at Merseyside.
Now, there have been reports for the past week that the Reds are trying to sign the Uruguayan, Manuel Ugarte. The 22-year-old has earned a lot of plaudits and has thus attracted a lot of clubs.
Along with Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs, and a few other clubs are also interested in his services.
It was reported that the Portuguese news sources, Correio da Manha had mentioned that the player’s agent had confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the player. Moreover, he revealed that Ugarte would be ‘surely’ leaving Sporting this summer.
Reports suggest Liverpool are close to signing Manuel Ugarte
As per DAZN reporter, the 22-year-old midfielder is very close to transferring to Liverpool, who lead the race to get his signing done.
The starlet has 3 years still in his contract but the Liga NOS side would part ways with the player if his release clause of £53million is met.
Moreover, he has made 8 appearances for Uruguay and was also part of the team that traveled to Qatar. But, he did not make an appearance in the competition.
However, in the current campaign, the midfielder has made 27 appearances. In them, he has helped his side keep 12 clean sheets. Moreover, he has averaged more successful tackles than anyone in the Europa League with 6 per game.
Also, Klopp’s main DM in Fabinho would turn 30 this year and his performances this season haven’t been great. So it would only make sense for the Reds to target a no non-sense defensive midfielder who would only improve under Klopp.
