Liverpool are reportedly pursuing the Uruguayan midfielder, Manuel Ugarte, and the deal is said to be imminent with his move being a ‘matter of time.’
As per today’s version of the news outlet, Correio da Manha, it is reported that the Portuguese club are set to sell the South American this summer if his release clause is met.
Another famous news source has claimed that based on the latest comments from Jorge Chijane, Ugarte’s agent, a move to Liverpool is ‘a matter of time.’
The player’s representative admitted the interest from the Merseysiders and claimed the deal is imminent.
“It is almost certain that he will not stay, it is certain that will leave.“
He has also claimed that super-agent, Jorge Mendes, will also take part in the deal which will be completed “within 15 days”.
Ugarte to Liverpool: is it going to happen?
With all these rumours about Liverpool’s imminent signing of Ugarte, the Sporting Club president, Federico Varandas, is angry. He has also prohibited all conversations with Ugarte. Meanwhile, he wants the player to focus on the final 3 games, as the club could still earn a place in the Champions League.
The Sporting directors have also left an alert to Liverpool. They said sanctions could be imposed on Liverpool by UEFA if they tempt the midfielder in the middle of the campaign.
Moreover, the president has made it clear that Ugarte would leave only if his £52m release clause is activated.
The defensive midfielder has turned heads around Europe with his performances and many clubs are interested in his services. Besides Liverpool, Arsenal, and Spurs, Newcastle are also said to be keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.
He has averaged more successful tackles than anyone in the Europa League with 6 per game. It now needs to be seen whether the Uruguayan would be coming to Anfield the next season.
