Chelsea are undergoing through a big overhaul and veteran player Cesar Azpilicueta will leave the club before their first encounter against Liverpool.
Cesar Azpilicueta is about to leave the Blues this summer. He has agreed personal terms of a two-year contract with Italian giants Inter Milan as per new reports.
The Spanish defender extended his contract for two more years last summer at Stamford Bridge. But now his deal will be mutually terminated which would allow him to join the Champions League finalists.
According to Fabrizio Romano‘s tweet, the mutual termination of Azpilicueta’s contract will be the ‘final step’ in his move away from Chelsea. He prepares to end his decade-long association with the club.
The club captain joined Chelsea 11 years ago in 2012. During his time at the club, he made over 500 appearances for the Blues.
He registered himself on the score sheet 17 times and provided 56 assists over the years. The Spanish defender has won almost every silverware with the London side.
Chelsea to face Liverpool without Cesar Azpilicueta
Liverpool will be facing Chelsea in their opening game of the season. Although the defender would have already moved to Milan by then.
The Merseysiders drew 0-0 on both occasions they met the last season in the PL. But the Blues are hoping to come back as a different side than last season.
Stamford Bridge outfit has appointed Mauricio Pochettino and he is supervising the transfer window.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea did not have a great last season. The Merseysiders finished 5th on the PL table and failed to qualify for UCL.
On the other hand, the London side had a disastrous season and finished in 12th position.
The clash on August 13 will introduce many new signings exclusively Alexis Mac Allister. Many more signings are also yet to come.
Chelsea also have to let go of many players like N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mason Mount, and others.
So it will be a great watch to see two teams appear in a new look and chase new sets of opportunities.
