Ben Doak was spotted in Liverpool training ahead of their clash against Manchester City.
Liverpool are eager to make amends after their last two losses in the Premier League and Champions League. The upcoming match against Manchester City is expected to be a tough one, but a win for Liverpool could bring them closer to the top four and hinder Man City’s title hopes.
Ben Doak in Liverpool training
In a recent training session, academy star Ben Doak was featured prominently. Although he has been with Liverpool for less than a year, Doak has already made a name for himself, dominating Liverpool’s age-level teams and even making appearances for the senior team.
He was also recently included in Goal.com’s NXGN 2023 list of the best 50 youngsters in world football. Jurgen Klopp has praised Doak as a “natural force” and the young player has quickly made a strong impression at Liverpool since joining from Celtic for a transfer fee of £600,000 during the summer.
Doak has had an impressive start at Liverpool, with four goals and four assists in only six UEFA Youth League matches, as well as four-goal contributions in five Under-18 Premier League games.
He has also played five times for Liverpool’s Under-21s, scoring once in the EFL Trophy this season. Furthermore, Doak has already made five appearances for Liverpool’s senior team, two of which were in the Premier League.
The winger, who is just 17 years old, has been compared to Wayne Rooney because of his strength and forcefulness while controlling the ball.
He has already broken the record for the youngest Scottish player to feature in the Premier League, and he has also played for the Under-21 national team.
Doak suffered a scary collapse
However, Doak suffered a frightening collapse during Liverpool’s quarter-final match against Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Youth League.
He challenged Sporting’s Joao Muniz for a header near the halfway line and stumbled to the ground, holding his head after putting his hand on it.
Liverpool medics attended to him, and although he reported feeling dizzy on the pitch, he passed all pitchside assessments and was able to walk off.
Liverpool eventually lost the match 1-0, with Doak being forced off less than 10 minutes into the game due to a suspected concussion.
Despite the loss, Liverpool’s young team exited with their heads high after a defiant performance that perhaps deserved more reward.
