Micky van de Ven turned down a strong interest from Liverpool this summer window to eventually join North London side, Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool were linked with the Dutchman in the early part of the transfer window. With the appointment of a new sporting director, the former Bundesliga defender was destined to join Klopp soon.
However, the Reds chose to strengthen their midfield and brought in 4 midfield recruitments instead.
The 22-year-old defender has so far looked like a great player for Tottenham. He has been very good in the first portion of the Premier League season.
Moreover, he has been referred to as a ‘revelation’ in the newsletter of The Independent.
Delving deeper into the Dutchman’s decision to join Tottenham, the newsletter claims that it all came down to one thing: playing time.
Micky van de Ven turn down Liverpool Interest this summer
As we know, Liverpool are already stacked at the back with senior players in Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahim Konate, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez.
Although Liverpool were reportedly ‘very interested’ in signing Micky, they couldn’t give him the gametime that he needed.
They were said to see the former Wolfsburg man as too inexperienced to be starting XI immediately.
While that may have been true, it’s claimed that Micky only wanted to move somewhere he was guaranteed a starting space. Thus, he ended up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Not to be underplaying the Spurs man as he is an excellent player. His excellent early-season form has made him into a full Netherlands international.
Moreover, he might have learned a lot under his national compatriot, Van Dijk. But there was no way he would have replaced him in the Liverpool squad.
The 31-year-old has been inconsistent this season but it takes a lot to replace the Dutch captain in Klopp’s XI.
The North London side have looked excellent and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table.
They have had an unbeaten start to the season including the controversial game against the Reds. With very early into the season, we need to wait and see if they can maintain the momentum till the end.
