Jose Enrique predicts title race between Arsenal and Man City

‘When it’s confirmed’: Enrique can’t believe Liverpool are close to signing ‘gifted’ player

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of Khephren Thuram from Nice, but former Liverpool player Jose Enrique will only believe it when it’s officially confirmed.

Thuram, a 22-year-old midfielder, has attracted attention from Liverpool, and Enrique responded to the news with a witty comment on social media.

Liverpool’s midfield has faced challenges, and the departures of players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner have freed up funds for potential signings.

Thuram fits Klopp’s plan for Liverpool

Thuram, described as a technically gifted player, fits the profile of what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is seeking.

Unlike other high-priced targets like Declan Rice, Thuram’s transfer fee is expected to be more reasonable due to Nice’s status as a top-half Ligue 1 team.

Reports suggest that Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Thuram, who made 48 appearances for Nice last season, contributing two goals and eight assists.

The Reds are pushing hard for an agreement, and Thuram himself is reportedly keen on the move.

Jose Enrique reacts on Thuram to Liverpool rumours

Liverpool appears to be in pole position to secure the midfielder, despite interest from Newcastle United. Thuram’s agent was recently seen at Nice’s headquarters, adding to speculation about his future.

Upon learning of the potential move of Khephren Thuram to Liverpool, the ex-Liverpool left-back, Jose Enrique, responded straightforwardly in the comments section of a LiverpoolGoals Instagram post.

He humorously stated, “When it’s confirmed, I will believe it,” accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Complexities in contract

While Liverpool’s position seems strong, the absence of a release clause in Thuram’s contract could complicate negotiations as the international transfer window approaches. Journalist Neil Jones believes that any delays in the deal are likely due to club-to-club negotiations rather than player-related issues.

The upcoming European Championships may also impact the timing of medicals and other formalities. However, there is optimism that the deal will go through smoothly. Jones told Empire of the Kop:

“When we talk about delays to the deal, as I mentioned, I think it’s more a club-to-club thing and that will be what determines how quickly or if a deal gets done.

It’s not a case like with Alexis Mac Allister where you know the price you’re going to pay and you know the other club doesn’t have much of a say in the matter.

The Euros do obviously complicate matters when you’re dealing with medicals and things like that but I don’t envision any issues on the player’s side – it’s all on the club’s side.”

With vacancies in midfield and funds available, Liverpool sees Thuram as a suitable addition to Jurgen Klopp’s team.

While the deal is expected to be more affordable compared to other high-profile transfers, negotiations could be affected by the absence of a release clause.

Despite potential challenges, Liverpool are optimistic about completing the signing of Thuram as they continue their summer rebuild.
