Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has showered praise on Ryan Gravenberch following their 2-0 victory against Union SG.
Despite facing some challenges from the Belgian side, Liverpool secured a comfortable win, with Gravenberch making headlines by scoring his first goal for the club.
The 21-year-old midfielder was signed by Liverpool on transfer deadline day last month, and Klopp is thrilled to have him on board.
Gravenberch is considered a significant talent, and Liverpool have been tracking him since his days at Ajax.
Klopp was finally able to secure his services on the last day of the summer transfer window.
Gravenberch’s introduction to Liverpool has been gradual, as he had only started twice before the recent match against Union SG.
On his third opportunity, he made a mark by capitalizing on a mistake by Union SG’s goalkeeper, Anthony Moris, who mishandled Trent Alexander-Arnold’s shot.
Gravenberch seized the opportunity and scored from close range.
Jurgen Klopp on Gravenberch
Speaking about the young midfielder after the game on LFC’s official website, Klopp stated,
“I think it’s really obvious how good he is, what a talent he is.
He’s enjoying the situation, enjoying himself, that’s very important, [he] gets step by step all the confidence back, that’s really cool to see. He’s in the middle of the group, fits really well to the age group of the majority of the squad, so that’s really good. That’s only positive.
We thought he might be able to play 90, we want to give him 90, but then we saw how he dropped a little bit and didn’t want to go there [with] any risks, so that’s why we brought on Dom for a few minutes.”
Klopp also mentioned that they had initially planned to give Gravenberch a full 90 minutes on the pitch but decided to substitute him when they saw he was tiring, as they didn’t want to take any risks with his fitness.
Ryan Gravenberch’s talent has always been evident, but his time at Bayern Munich last season was disappointing, with limited playing opportunities.
He was eager to leave the German champions due to his low position in the pecking order.
Liverpool secured his signing, and it’s clear that Klopp believes in his tremendous potential.
As Liverpool faces Brighton in their upcoming match, it will be interesting to see if Gravenberch gets a starting position in the lineup.
