Liverpool made significant improvements to their midfield options during the summer transfer window, but former Reds’ winger Jermaine Pennant believes that they should consider adding Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone to further strengthen their midfield.

Last season, Liverpool faced midfield challenges, prompting them to seek quality reinforcements.

They successfully added players like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo. Additionally, they pursued players like Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone.

Jermaine Pennant advice to Liverpool

Jermaine Pennant expressed (Via TEAMtalk) his desire for Liverpool to acquire a “proper enforcer” in January, suggesting,

“I’d like to see Liverpool sign a proper enforcer in January. For me, that player would be Manu Kone. I think he would be a great number six and encourage Mac Allister to move further forward.

Kone would be the icing on the cake, and so would Khephren Thuram – I’ve always been a huge fan of his. He may not play as a 6, but you could make it work. If we can get them in January, then we’re looking at a boss midfield!

Those two could win Liverpool the Champions League. Having Kone and Thuram in there would elevate Liverpool’s midfield to being up there with the very best. Add in the forward five, and the likes of Virgil [van Dijk], Trent [Alexander-Arnold], and Alisson in the back, and that’s an unbelievable side.”

Said Jermaine Pennant.

Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone at Anfield?

Khephren Thuram, in particular, was linked with Liverpool during the summer transfer window but remained with French club Nice.

Whether Liverpool revives their interest in Thuram in January remains to be seen.

Thuram possesses qualities that could make him a versatile box-to-box midfielder, adding defensive solidity and creativity to Liverpool’s midfield.

The need for a quality young defensive midfielder is evident, and Manu Kone appears to be an ideal fit.

His performances in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach have showcased his defensive abilities, which could strengthen Liverpool’s midfield.

Both Thuram and Kone would likely find the opportunity to join Liverpool appealing.

They are valued at approximately £95 million combined. Liverpool may need to decide whether to pursue both players or prioritize one during the January transfer window, considering their financial constraints.
