Thiago, who was out with a hamstring problem, has handed Liverpool a major injury boost as he returns to training before the UCL clash against Napoli.
Thiago return hands Liverpool a major injury boost
Prior to their Champions League group match, Thiago Alcantara has back to full training, giving Liverpool a significant injury boost.
Since sustaining a hamstring strain six minutes after halftime of the Premier League match against newly promoted Fulham on August 6, the Spaniard has been out.
The 31-year-old was “close” to making a comeback, according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Klopp said last week that he had been set to begin team training this week.
Thiago may now be in the running for a spot in the matchday squad for the Champions League match at Napoli on Wednesday after being put through his paces at the AXA Training Center on Monday.
Thiago’s return is especially welcome given that Liverpool’s midfield options have already been tied down by the absences of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and captain Jordan Henderson due to hamstring injuries. Fabio Carvalho is also questionable for midweek after suffering a dead leg in the goalless draw at Everton on Saturday.
Back to Champions League Action
Liverpool will face a strong Napolii for their first match of this season’s UCL. The Reds return to European Football after losing the UCL final last year to Real Madrid. That was their 3rd final in 5 years. They won in 2019 while lost again to Real Madrid in 2018.
Reds’ also come off a poor start to this year’s campaign. They have won just 2 out of the 6 games and are currently 7th in the table. Jurgen Klopp must be hoping to turn things around quickly. And contest for every possible trophy, just like they did last year.
This season will also be a little tough for the players. As they will have to put a halt to club football and represent their countries in 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP.
