Sheffield United are set to be open to selling their star midfielder, Sander Berge who was linked to a move to Liverpool in the past.
The Norway international joined the English side from Belgian side, Genk for £22 million in January 2020. He joined midway through the Blades’ brilliant first Premier League season under Chris Wilder.
Since then, Berge has made 109 appearances for the club, going through relegation and then promotion with them.
Berge played an important role in Sheff Utd gaining promotion back to the top flight in the season just finished, registering six goals and five assists in 37 Championship games.
As per TEAMtalk, the Blades are set to be selling the midfielder for as less as £10m if there are takers. The newly promoted club are looking to raise funds for their own transfers this summer ahead of their season in the PL.
Berge’s future at Bramall Lane has been the subject of speculation for some time. Moreover, the Norwegian is poised to enter the final year of his contract and is not considering signing a new deal.
Hence, the Blades are looking to cash in on Berge rather than letting him leave on a free transfer by running his contract down. A number of clubs in England and across Europe are understood to be monitoring the 25-year-old’s situation.
Liverpool still have a chance of getting their target, Berge
Back in January, the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle, and Chelsea were said to have been linked to the Norwegian. However, Sheffield held on to the player and managed to get more of his services.
That might not be possible this season as the cut-down price is sure to attract a lot of attention again.
The 25-year-old is a tall presence in the midfield and could sure be a good back-up for their Brazilian DM, Fabinho. However, it might be a while before he could be in Klopp’s XI.
The midfielder was previously linked to Liverpool but Sheffield United grabbed the chance of signing the player. Since then, he has been a huge part of the Blades’ side.
Now with Klopp looking at midfield options, the 25-year-old could provide a great option for a very low price. That being said, Liverpool does need some first-tier proven players in their ranks.
Also, the likes of Thuram and Kone are being heavily linked to Liverpool. And there is no doubt that the Reds’ fans would prefer the French duo more. It comes down to the age and the sheer first-tier football they have played.
Moreover, the 22-year-olds have been in the news recently, heavily linked to the Reds. It is to be seen how the transfer window would turn out for the Red half of the Merseyside.
