Earlier this week, Liverpool have been linked with a move for PSV winger Johan Bakayoko and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that ‘it’s true’ that several top clubs have been checking his progress.
With Jurgen Klopp leaving his post at the end of the season, it can be said that he won’t be part of any more future transfer-related matters.
Michael Edwards, Liverpool’s newly appointed CEO of Football, will wield greater authority in managing operations, with Richard Hughes set to join as the club’s next Sporting Director, offering assistance.
According to Romano’s Daily Briefing, Liverpool’s transfer focus hinges on their next managerial appointment.
While they retain interest in the young attacker, no concrete development has emerged yet.
Liverpool in The Race for Johan Bakayoko
Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger reported Liverpool’s interest in Bakayoko, a top target. Bakayoko, currently under contract with PSV until 2027, is available for a fee of £42m-£51m.
“I’m aware there have been some stories about Liverpool targeting talented young PSV winger Johan Bakayoko, but there is nothing concrete happening yet, nothing serious, with the Belgium international 100% focused on PSV.
Many clubs have been monitoring Bakayoko since last summer. Scouts from English top clubs regularly watch him play, but nothing concrete has emerged yet. Bakayoko is likely to assess his options at the end of the season.”
During the January transfer window, PL side Brentford attempted to sign the 20-year-old, however, their £35m bid was rejected by the Dutch club.
Bakayoko has managed seven goals and nine assists in all competitions for PSV, and he could be a smart addition for Liverpool should they decide to move for him.
It’ll be interesting to see Liverpool’s summer transfer approach post-Klopp. They might sell Salah to Saudi clubs for big offers and cut ties with underperforming players.
