It has been reported that Liverpool have opened talks for the potential signing of Sporting Lisbon defender, Goncalo Inacio.

As per Le Parisien, Liverpool are looking at signing the Portuguese defender and have already opened initial talks. However, other European clubs are in the race to sign the defender like PSG.

The young center-back has been one of the emerging talents in Europe. The 21-year-old is also capable of playing as a left-back.

The young center-back is heavily praised by Bruno Fernandes as he noticed Inacio in the ranks over in Lisbon.

“There is a player I like a lot from the under-23s, the left footed guy, Goncalo Inacio. I’ve spoken about him many times.

It’s a player that if he comes to train with us [senior team], then he will learn a lot from [Jeremy] Mathieu. We are talking about different aspects but the style of play is exactly the same.”

Meanwhile, Man Utd are also said to have been linked with the 21-year-old. Sporting are only willing to let him go if his release clause is met. That is believed to stand at around £39m.

Liverpool could get real talent in Goncalo Inacio

With Liverpool having a poor season, they need established players who wouldn’t take time in adjusting to Klopp’s team. However, young players like Inacio are surely ones to keep tabs on.

Moreover, the pattern of Liverpool’s targets this summer seems to be futuristic. Bellingham, Caicedo, Rice, Mount, and now Inacio are all young players. They would only get better with time and would possibly be at the club for a long time.

With Inacio, Liverpool clearly sees a young defender with huge potential. Having won already with Sporting, the mindset to be successful already exists with Inacio.

But with the Sporting Man attracting a lot of European clubs, Liverpool faces competition for the player. If the Reds are willing to pay the asking price, it would definitely be a good business.
