Liverpool faces Southampton in their last game before the World Cup. And Klopp hints the fans that Matip might not be able to start today.

Klopp at Matip’s unavailability

Joel Matip might not start today, according to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Today at Anfield, the Reds will welcome Southampton to finish their pre-World Cup schedule. Due to a number of injuries, Liverpool hasn’t been at their best in the first half of the season.

However, things appear to be improving before the campaign ends for the World Cup. In his pre-game press conference, Klopp stated that he had no fresh concerns about injury or fitness.

Klopp:

“Millie is back in training today, Naby is out and running, Lucho is back on the pitch and running”

Matip is now available for selection for the first time in a month, said Klopp. Before the Saints game, the Liverpool defender put in nearly a full workout in practise. Klopp did, however, imply that Matip might not start. Despite the fact that he has only participated in one session, the Liverpool manager said he “would be available.”

Recovery for Joel

Matip is a player who has a lot to offer Liverpool and is “unbelievable.” To avoid overworking him when he returns, it’s probably better that he waits till tomorrow.

Matip may be a viable option off the bench, based on what is being said. The Reds have struggled with injuries all season. And they continue to follow one another. The concept of “taking a break” doesn’t exist. Therefore, it is crucial that athletes get enough rest before entering the field. And Klopp is aware of that.

There are only 7 players from Liverpool who will be leaving the squad for the World Cup. The rest will head onto Dubai for special training and some matches. This World Cup break might be a blessing in disguise for some of the Scousers as they can get the sufficient rest they need. It is not so far-fetched that Liverpool might come back stronger than ever after the World Cup.
