Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup has emerged as one of the winter targets for Liverpool and he has expressed his desire to play for the English giants in the past.

The winter transfer window has been really quiet for the Reds as they have made zero progress regarding signing new players. As the window has presented every club with the opportunity to bolster their ranks before jumping into the second half of the season, most clubs have been in action.

Even though the Merseysiders are currently cruising in great form, it will become tougher for them to maintain the same tempo as they go deeper into the season due to injuries. So having squad depth would actually help the club in their title change.

Where are new signings needed?

The department which is in grave danger is defense. Already players like Joel Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are out due to injuries. One more injury in the backline means the Anfield giants can say goodbye to their title hopes.

Another position which needs to be worked upon is defensive-midfielder. It is now an established fact that Wataru Endo was an immediate and hurried fix for outbound Fabinho.

However, Jurgen Klopp has not really used the Japanese international to his potential. Instead he has been playing Alexis Mac Allister as the deep-lying midfielder.

Speaking in an interview back in 2018, he expressed his desire to play for the Anfield side.

“It’s a dream [playing for Liverpool] I’ve always had, and I believe it will succeed. If I work hard, I believe in it.”

Frendrup stated.

The 22-year-old has made 20 appearances so far in this season and has already registered 4 assists in his name. He also averages 3.9 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game in Serie A (stats via WhoScored).

Other clubs who are reportedly interested in the midfielder are Tottenham Hotspurs and Crystal Palace. If Liverpool decides to sign Frendrup this winter, they will have a long-term fix for the no. 6 issue.
