Greek journalist, Giannis Chorianopoulos has given an update which suggested that Liverpool could start Kostas Tsimikas for Saturday’s game.
The reporter shared that the 27-year-old left-back is now set to cover for Andy Robertson as he spends is out due to injury.
He is set to start for the Reds against Everton on their return to club football this Saturday.
The Scotsman was injured in his Euro Qualifier games for Scotland against Spain where he collided against goalkeeper, Simon. He looks to be out for weeks to come or even the whole year.
Tsimikas: Liverpool boss to go with the obvious choice?
While the Liverpool fans will be for a speedy recovery of Andy Robertson, they would be relieved to have Tsimikas available. However, it isn’t yet certain that Klopp will start Tsimikas.
He could still steer towards the possibility of starting Jarell Quansah out wide or playing Joe Gomez on the left flank. But with an out-and-out left-back available for selection, it must be a no-brainer.
Moreover, the Greek international has the best dribble success rate so far in the Euro 2024 Qualifiers with 90%. This statistic is based on 60 players to have attempted more than 15 dribbles.
Although Tsimikas is not the same as Robertson, the Greek is capable of creating chances as well.
He showed this in his recent international game with a brilliant cross to register an assist against the Republic of Ireland.
Hence, it is a better option to have Tsimikas at the left flank for now until Robertson returns. Moreover, with Trent shifting into an inverted role, even Robertson has struggled quite a few times.
That shift has often demanded Robertson tuck in from the left and form a back three with Liverpool’s centre-backs.
But due to his inclination to make forward runs, he has struggled a bit to adjust to that system.
