Liverpool’s owner, John Henry, has broken his silence for the first time since Jurgen Klopp‘s departure, revealing a whopping $3 billion deal orchestrated by the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to revolutionize the PGA Tour.
The Strategic Sports Group (SSG), a collaboration between FSG and influential owners such as Steven A. Cohen of the New York Mets, Arthur M. Blank of the Atlanta Falcons, and Wyc Grousbeck of the Boston Celtics, spearheaded the mega-deal.
FSG, with a sports empire including Liverpool, the Boston Red Sox, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been in talks for months about investing in the PGA.
This groundbreaking move follows FSG’s entry into golf with the purchase of a franchise in the Technology Golf League, led by none other than Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
The deal now extends to the formation of PGA Tour Enterprises, a commercial venture allowing players to become equity holders.
SSG has committed an initial staggering $1.5 billion to the venture. The announcement comes amidst ongoing talks between the PGA and LIV Golf, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, regarding a potential merger.

FSG’s investment has received the green light, with John Henry, also the manager of SSG, expressing his excitement about the venture’s potential to elevate the global stature of golf.
In a joint statement, FSG and John Henry emphasized their deep respect for the game and their belief in the PGA Tour’s expansive growth.
Meanwhile, Jay Monahan, commissioner of the PGA Tour and CEO of PGA Tour Enterprises, hailed the partnership with SSG as a pivotal moment for the sport.
The move aims to empower PGA Tour members by making them owners of the league, reinforcing their collective investment in its success.
Fans can expect an elevated sports entertainment experience, focusing on the intense competition brought forth by players, tournaments, and partners.
