Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole could not believe the pace he saw from Reds forward Cody Gakpo last night against LASK.
The Anfield giants thrashed Austrian side LASK 4-0 in the UEL clash last night. The English side cruised smoothly as Luis Diaz opened the scoring for them with a header from Joe Gomez’s cross.
Then 3 minutes later Cody Gakpo doubled the lead with an easy tap-in from a low cross from Mohamed Salah.
He was again involved in the third goal as LASK goalkeeper fouled him which the referee awarded a penalty.
The Dutchman finished the demolition with a powerful strike that almost pierced the LASK net. He also won the ‘Man of the Match’ award. And the attacker gathered many praises from pundits.
Joe Cole impressed by Cody Gakpo
The former Liverpans Chelsea midfielder spent his evening analyzing the victory of the English giants for TNT Sports. And he could not stop praising the Dutch attacker as he was impressed with his pace. Cole said,
“He was probing, getting into good positions and what I do like about him is how comfortable he is on the ball. He showed a yard there.
I didn’t know he had that kind of speed. He just took off. That’s why I think there’s more to him, because I have not seen that.
How long have we watched Cody Gakpo play? I have not seen him open his legs like that. He looked blistering.”
The 24-year-old is a promising and agile young attacker who joined the Reds this January. The club secured the deal in just £44M while competing with Manchester United.
And since joining the team, he has made a positive impact with his attacking prowess. The Dutchman’s physicality combined with his speed and height is scaring the opponents now.
He has proven to be threatening with both his shots and headers. He can prove to be even more threatening in the coming days if Jurgen Klopp starts using him regularly in his preferred positions rather than in the midfield.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
