Liverpool will proceed to finalize the sale of skipper Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq in a deal worth £82M in total on Saturday.
Liverpool are going through one of the biggest rebuilds in recent years. Their main focus has been to bolster the midfield.
And the plan is almost going pretty well. The signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been evident in the revamp plan.
And this plan also included letting go of some players. The club bid goodbye to experienced midfielders like James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita. This surely freed up some funds to provide for the new signings.
However, earlier reports also hinted that the most experienced midfielder trio of the Merseysiders were being targeted for a summer transfer.
Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara have been on the transfer radar of Saudi League clubs.
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson move to Al-Ettifaq confirmed
Reports from earlier this week indicated that Al-Ettifaq were considering a potential transfer of Henderson to their club.
And now the latest report via Football Insider confirmed that the 33-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with Al-Ettifaq.
Henderson will earn a salary of £700K per week which will add up to more than £36M per year. His contract will also have the option to extend the contract by one more year after the first two years based on performance.
The Damman-based club is quite sure that they will complete the deal. The Reds will reportedly agree to a fee of around £10M given that Henderson still has two years left in his Liverpool contract.
Thus, a two-year contract with the Saudi Club with pay of £36M per year plus a £10M transfer fee will equal up to a complete package of £82M.
The English midfielder joined the Anfield side 12 years ago from Sunderland for £16M. And soon he became captain as soon as Steven Gerrard retired in 2015. He has rightfully been the successor of the Liverpool legend.
Jordan Henderson has been the only captain to win all competitions for Liverpool. The most significant title of them has been Premier League and Champions League.
Losing an experienced and iconic player like him could become problematic for the Merseysiders.
It will be really tough to replace the leader who eventually joins the Club legend Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Pro League.
