Liverpool would be willing to pay big money in order to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill this summer if they get even the slightest bit of encouragement from the Blues.
The Reds have been heavily linked with Colwill as his future at Stamford Bridge hangs in the balance. So far, it looks as though the 20-year-old will be staying put though. Moreover, Chelsea are reportedly adamant that he won’t be sold.
Liverpool set to go big for Colwill
But speaking to Redmen TV yesterday, journalist David Lynch has been talking up Liverpool’s interest in Colwill. According to Lynch, the Reds will move if given even a hint of encouragement from Chelsea.
“I think they’d absolutely love to [sign Colwill]. If there was even a hint of a possibility that they could make this work I think Liverpool would do it. They really like him. He’s home grown, he fits the bill in so many ways. He would be the ideal signing in that position I think.
It’s a difficult one, Brighton have already given up, it looks like they’ll go for Calvin Bassey instead because they didn’t get the impression they could get a deal over the line. But Liverpool have got a lot more money than Brighton and probably the ability to do a deal at a bigger amount than Brighton were in for.
Maybe if it gets to the point where he says ‘I’m not going to sign a contract’ further down the line this summer, he doesn’t feel there are guarantees enough over his playing time, maybe that option opens up for Liverpool and they can really pursue it.
I know there’s been contact on the agents side, they’re keeping tabs on him. It’s one that if they get even the slightest bit of encouragement that they could do a deal with Chelsea I think they would pay a big fee for him.”
Other options for the Reds
Liverpool have finally made their mark in the summer transfer window. And with two blockbuster signings, they would be looking to make more moves.
There had been talks that Schmadtke had sparked speculations about another defender in Micky van de Ven’s move to Anfield.
However, now the Reds are linked to the Englishman after their midfield has been strengthened. Of course, they are still in the talks over signing the Saints’ midfielder, Romeo Lavia.
But for now, Klopp seems to have turned his attention to his defence line. With that in mind, Colwill is clearly someone to keep an eye on.
Chelsea are making a show of their desire to keep hold of the academy graduate. But it isn’t very much like Liverpool to hang around in a race they know they can’t win. They must have been given some kind of hope from the player’s camp.
But if Liverpool feels Chelsea will budge on Colwill, they’re right to hold off on pulling the trigger on someone else.
