The Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool have been monitoring the Wolfsburg ace, Micky van de Ven for a long time now.
As per his update on GiveMeSport, the Italian said that the appointment of the new sporting director, Schmadtke has sparked speculations about the player’s links to Anfield.
The reports from Wolfsburg claimed that the new sporting director has been wanting to sign the player from his former club. These speculations might seem recent, i.e., been surfacing after the appointment of Jorg.
However, Romano has claimed that Liverpool’s interest in Van de Ven is anything but recent.
“Now for Van de Ven is a player they’ve been following for a long time.
Let’s see if they decide to enter into it or not. But it’s just about following the player. Nothing else at the moment, honestly.”
Van de Ven: The ideal defender for Liverpool?
The 22-year-old Dutchman is known for his pace and being a defender, that is a rare trait that you would find.
There is no doubt that the defensive line needs reinforcements as well. With Matip entering his final year on his contract, Konate and Van Dijk would remain the only senior defenders in the squad.
The Wolfsburg man would surely be a great addition and his left-footed defensive trait would be a huge plus.
Van de Ven certainly seems to fit the bill for the Anfield outfit in terms of characteristics, talent, and age. Since joining Wolfsburg from Dutch club FC Volendam, he has gone from strength to strength.
This season just gone, Van de Ven made 26 club appearances, including 33 in the Bundesliga. He also captains the Netherlands Under-21s, which shows that he has great leadership skills.
And aside from his quality, leadership skills, and attitude, his height, physicality and speed are all ‘exceptional‘.
And in terms of price tag, Van de Ven is reportedly valued at around £34 million. Hence, price-wise, he wouldn’t break the bank for Liverpool.
