Liverpool are now interested in signing Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson after over four years of Everton selling him for just £2m.
Liverpool are in a sort of crisis with the left-back situation after both the first-choice and the second-choice have been injured.
Captain and critical player Andry Robertson was injured in the international break while playing against Spain. He suffered a shoulder injury in October and hasn’t yet recovered to return to first-team action.
This was supposed to open a great window of opportunity for second-choice LB in Kostas Tsimikas. However, the joy didn’t last long, as he got injured in an exciting 1-1 draw against Arsenal last weekend. The Greece international picked up a collarbone injury and faces months on the sidelines.
Defender Joel Matip has also been injured and could be out for the whole season. He suffered an ACL injury, which would restrict Klopp’s options in the CB role.
Now, the left-back role has only Joe Gomez as the option, with the youngster Luke Chambers next up. But with Liverpool still alive in every cup competition, they need serious reinforcements.
Liverpool make first move to sign Antonee Robinson
As per reports from 90min, Liverpool are looking towards the transfer market over a potential left-back signing.
Moreover, the reports state that the Reds have contacted Fulham to sign Antonee Robinson. The 26-year-old is reportedly open to joining the red side of Merseyside after a stint on the blue side.
Robinson is under contract with the Cottages till 2028, so this wouldn’t be a cheap deal for Liverpool. The USA international has started 18 games for Marco Silva this season and has had 3 assists.
His most significant trait is his pace, and he has been praised for being ‘athletic’ and ‘fast’ by Wolves defender Matt Doherty. He could be an excellent fit for Klopp as he loves his full-backs.
Moreover, it would be a giant pill to swallow for Everton fans as Robinson has played at Everton before. He started his career at Goodison Park, joining their youth ranks at age 11.
He progressed through the ranks but never represented them in the first team. Later, after an impressive loan spell, he was allowed to leave for just £ 2 million in 2019.
He has played for Fulham in the PL since 2020 and hasn’t looked back. Hence, seeing him do well would be complicated, but seeing him do well for their bitter rivals would be hard for Evertonians to take.
