Liverpool legend, Robbie Fowler sacked by Saudi second-tier side
Despite an unbeaten start to the league this season, in which the club have won six games and drawn 2, Fowler was dismissed on Friday morning.
While announcing the news on social media, the club thanked the former Liverpool striker for his commitment to the team.
The 48-year-old had been appointed back in June 2023 and managed the side for 5 months. However, no specific details about the reason for his sacking were given by the club in their post.
The Saudi side finished 11th in Saudi Arabia’s second tier last season. Also, they were 23 points adrift of the top-four promotions spots to the first division.
Fowler’s only defeat in charge of Al-Qadsiah came in the King’s Cup against Saudi Pro League side Al-Taawoun. It was a game that they were not expected to win anyway.
The victory over Al-Kholood proved to be Fowler’s last game in charge as the club sat in 2nd place a point off of Al-Orobah.
Since retiring from professional football in 2012, Fowler has managed a number of clubs in Asia. He has coached Muangthong United in Thailand, Brisbane Roar in Australia, and East Bengal in India.
Over the course of his managerial career, he has taken charge of 66 games, winning 24, drawing 19, and losing 23.
He would have hoped to lead Al-Qadsiah to the Saudi first division where he would have faced his former teammate, Steven Gerrard.
However, the former Liverpool captain is also struggling at Al-Ettifaq with his side only 7th in the league.
