Liverpool joins the race to sign next “Luka Modric”

Luka Sucic to Liverpool

Over the past months, many suggested Liverpool should look for new midfield options. According to reports, Liverpool are exploring an £18 million summer signing for Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic, who plays for Red Bull Salzburg.

The 20-year-old has made 15 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga for Salzburg, who lead the league standings by nine points. But, the player is presently out with a knee injury.

Sucic has received four Croatian caps and was a member of Zlatko Dalic’s team that advanced to the World Cup semifinals in Qatar last year, despite the fact that the former FC Liefering player did not take part in the competition.

Liverpool and Klopp’s interest in Luka Sucic

According to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are interested in Sucic, with the club contemplating a midfield reconstruction in the summer.

The midfielder, nicknamed the “next Luka Modric,” reportedly has an £18 million release clause at Salzburg in Austria, and Newcastle United are also interested in signing him.

Due to a knee injury sustained in the win against Rapid Wien last weekend, Sucic’s participation for the remainder of the current season is in doubt.

Salzburg are hoping to have the midfielder healthy again in May.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday night, Liverpool will play Real Madrid in the second leg of their round-of-16 Champions League matchup in Spain, while Salzburg will host Altach to wrap off the regular season of the Austrian Bundesliga.

The new ‘Luka Modric’?

With 20-year-old Sucic playing in more than half of their league games thus far this season, RB Salzburg are riding high at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga standings. They have also frequently used the offensive midfielder in European competition.

Because of what appears to be parallels in their playing styles, Sucic has been dubbed the “next Luka Modric” in certain circles. He may have a contract release provision that allows for as little as £18 million in the purchase price.

Newcastle have also been mentioned as a possible destination for the young player, but it is also said that Liverpool are keeping an eye on his status in preparation for a midfield reconstruction in the summer.
