Liverpool might have to pay a hefty fee to secure Ruben Amorim as a manager in case Xabi Alonso does not take the baton from Jurgen Klopp.
Jurgen Klopp‘s impending Anfield exit has stirred up many conversations regarding who will take over to continue Liverpool‘s legacy and dominance in European and domestic football.
The Xabi Alonso Situation
Among the many names that have surfaced over the course of the last couple of weeks since the German’s departure announcement, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso‘s name emerges at the top.
However, the looming questions about whether Alonso will join Liverpool by the end of the season have become a source of headache for the LFC officials.
In his first season as a top-flight manager, the Spaniard is already leading Leverkusen to their potentially first-ever Bundesliga title as the German side is currently 10 points clear of defending champions Bayern Munich.
But the former Red has not decided if he wants to move on from the Leverkusen job as he stays committed to end the season there.
Even though the allure of managing the Merseysiders is quite tantalizing, the pressure of PL-level competition might dim his interest.
Furthermore, the attractive prospect of managing German giants Bayern Munich, who are trying to replace Thomas Tuchel, will also come into play.
Additionally, the pressure and competition at Bundesliga would not be as high as managing the Anfield giants in the PL.
Ruben Amorim to Liverpool: Successor of Klopp?
Apart from Xabi Alonso, the man who is also wanted for the job is Ruben Amorim. The Sporting Lisbon manager has been under the radar of many clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.
However, the release clause for Amorim assures that any club who wants to secure his services must pay £25.6M to Lisbon.
The Reds might not opt to pay that kind of money for a few obvious reasons.
The Financial Fair Play regulations and the Profit and Sustainability rules might restrict a club like Liverpool who are known for keeping their books clean.
On top of that the PL transfer record for managerial transfer of £20M by Chelsea, to acquire Graham Potter’s services, is already a proof that record transfer fee does not always ensure quality.
Similar case can be made for Julian Nagelsmann’s world record-setting £21.7M transfer from RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich that did not pan out very well.
So Liverpool have to be very careful in choosing the proper manager who will carry on the legacy and glory brought in by Jurgen Klopp.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
