Liverpool are said to be in contention to sign the Borussia Dortmund player, Raphael Guerreiro who is said to be leaving the club as a free agent.
Dortmund surprisingly went on to lose the title to their arch-rivals, Bayern on the final day of the league. They just needed a win against Mainz as they were 1 point ahead of 2nd place Bayern. However, they drew against Mainz while Bayern took all 3 points from Koln to claim their 11th successive title.
Soon after, the Portuguese announced his imminent departure from the club. Despite an important contract proposal from BVB, Guerreiro is considering other options to try a new challenge.
Liverpool to try the third-time-lucky-charm and sign Guerreiro
Guerreiro was reported to be a Liverpool target twice already. Liverpool had bid for the then-Lorient left-back, back in 2016. However, the Portuguese chose Dortmund who had bid alongside Liverpool.
Again in the summer of 2019, they were interested in signing the left-back but pulled the plug as he wouldn’t get a lot of playtime. Moreover, the financial side wasn’t worth it either as per reports,
However, after 2 years, Liverpool seem to be interested in signing the player. While Mac Allister deal is said to be done, Klopp is looking to sign more players.
There is also interest in Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Bayern’s Ryan Gravenberch. But reports suggest the former favours a switch to Manchester United, while the latter is said to be not for sale.
“We look in all departments apart from goalkeeper at the moment. Yes, if there is a good one (centre-back) out there, I would not deny it. That’s all. We look at all areas of the pitch, definitely.“
Said Klopp.
The Portuguese player who is traditionally a left-back could also play in the midfield. He is versatile enough and could very well adapt in the PL. This means that the 29-year-old could tick many boxes for Klopp and his side.
Klopp is not new to using a player in two positions. As is the case with Alexander Arnold, he was made to play in the midfield in the closing games of this season. Moreover, he was praised for his midfield play by many critics.
So it is to be seen whether the Portuguese would play at Anfield for Liverpool the next season.
