Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is returning to his top form after a long time and this could potentially help the club save millions from the transfer budget.
Despite the refereeing horrors of the Tottenham match, the Reds have not lost their focus and are continuing to show their class in world football. Last Saturday they comfortably beat Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside derby.
Moreover, on Thursday night the Anfield giants demolished Toulouse 5-1 in the UEL clash asserting their dominance throughout the game.
The team defensively has been solid which initially was questionable from the beginning of the 2023-24 season.
Even though the team has consistently conceded goals, the attack has been amazing to cover up the mistakes and score goals.
The Merseysiders have conceded in 10 matches out of the 13 matches they have played across all competitions this season.
But the defense has started to look a bit more solid with every passing match.
Joe Gomez and his return to top form
One of the longest-serving players in this LFC team, Joe Gomez has had a mixed career so far.
The defender joined the club in 2015 and created one of the best defensive duos of PL with Virgil Van Dijk.
But his injury in 2020 was a major setback as he was out of action for almost one year. And since returning from the injury he has not been able to find his old rhythm. Gomez made only 8 appearances in the PL in the 2021-22 season.
However, things have started to change for good as the 26-year-old is becoming more and more regular with his presence on the field.
And also with noticeable performances, he has almost secured a starting spot on Klopp’s team sheet.
In the 11 matches he has played so far this season, he averages a 6.74 overall rating for his performances.
In the match against Toulouse assisted a goal, made five tackles, won five out of his six ground duels, and made three interceptions and seven recoveries (stats via WhoScored).
These stats are enough to prove that he has leveled up his game and will be aiming higher in the future. This will definitely help Liverpool to save millions of pounds in the transfer market.
The Reds initially thought of adding two new defenders but now it looks like one new addition would be enough to bolster the defense of this great team.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
