Liverpool fans were left in shock as Nottingham Forest pulled off a surprise 1-0 win against the Reds at Anfield, leaving Jamie Carragher with some explaining to do.

The defeat marked Arne Slot’s first loss as Liverpool boss, and while most were confident of a routine win, it was Roy Keane who ended up with bragging rights.

Jamie Carragher bold prediction backfires

Speaking on The Overlap podcast before the match, Carragher was confident that Liverpool would ease past Forest, predicting a comfortable 2-0 win.

He even suggested that the Reds could afford to “rest a couple of players for Milan,” showing how relaxed he was about the outcome. But his optimism was crushed when Callum Hudson-Odoi’s 72nd-minute goal handed Nottingham Forest the win.

In contrast, Roy Keane predicted a tighter game, claiming Liverpool would win but also conceded a goal for the first time this season.

His 3-1 scoreline didn’t come true, but his prophecy of Liverpool conceding held strong. “They haven’t conceded yet? Exactly, so they will,” joked Keane during the podcast, and he wasn’t wrong!

Reds look to bounce back against AC Milan

The loss sees Liverpool slip to fourth in the Premier League table, with tougher challenges ahead.

Slot’s side now prepare for a big Champions League night at the San Siro against AC Milan, followed by a return to Anfield to face Bournemouth on September 21.

Liverpool fans will be hoping for a turnaround, but this defeat has shown that anything can happen in football—just ask Carragher!
