Bayern Munich star rejected new contract after strong Liverpool interest – January move possible?
According to reports, Liverpool are reportedly gearing up for a January transfer window, with Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala identified as their primary target.
After signing just Federico Chiesa this summer from Juventus for £12.5 million, the Reds are still armed with a significant transfer budget and could be set up for major winter acquisitions.
Liverpool set to pursue Jamal Musiala as Bayern Munich contract talks stall
Musiala is one of the brightest young talents in Europe, and he has long been on Liverpool’s wishlist. As The Daily Express explains, the young, 20-year-old influence on many observers as the best player in the Bundesliga has attracted speculation from clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Real Madrid.
With two goals and an assist in his opening four matches of the season, Musiala has started the season in the same scoring vein that led him to score 12 goals last season. His ability to attack as well as being a goal threat creates enormous demand for his services.
The German international athlete of late turned down an extension of contract with Bayern Munich and therefore places uncertainty around his future at the club.
This opens the door for Liverpool FC, which could be interested in the player and therefore are monitoring the development closely, especially for the January window. Bayern wants to keep Musiala, but his declining the extension only adds more speculation that he has the potential to leave the Allianz Arena.
Liverpool is serious about Musiala but will have to spend a substantial fee for the midfield star. Musiala is reported to be valued at around £120 million, which is a transfer record fee for the club. Liverpool’s current record signing is Darwin Nunez, at £85 million last year, but the player has not been consistent in his play.
While the competition for Musiala will be stiff, Liverpool could test Bayern’s immediate resolve in January with some kind of bid. If Musiala has not extended his contract by then, the Reds might see that as an opportunity to stake a significant claim in the market.
