Liverpool’s pursuit of midfielder Romeo Lavia has taken an intriguing turn. As the Southampton star is reportedly showing a strong inclination to join the ranks with the Reds.

Journalist Ben Jacobs highlighted this preference, suggesting that this development has bolstered Liverpool’s optimism in securing the deal.

Despite facing competition from other Premier League contenders, Liverpool seems determined to add Lavia to their roster before the upcoming transfer deadline on September 1.

Strategic Investments

In their efforts to strengthen the midfield, Liverpool have demonstrated a willingness to invest substantially.

It is evident in their recent acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, which have collectively cost around £100 million.

While their initial offer for Lavia was turned down, their persistence in negotiations has led to potential headway in personal terms.

Southampton Firm on their Valuation for Romeo Lavia

However, Southampton have reportedly rejected bids from Liverpool, with the most recent offer falling below their £40 million valuation.

The Belgian midfielder’s impressive 34 appearances during the previous season have led Southampton to hold out for a higher fee, aiming for £50 million.

Romeo Lavia Prefers Liverpool: Advantageous Edge

Notably, Lavia’s expressed preference for joining Liverpool could tip the scales in the club’s favor. As they look to seal the deal for around £45 million, according to insights from transfer expert Dean Jones.

This preference aligns with Southampton’s interest in swiftly finalizing their squad for the new season. While competition from Manchester United and Chelsea persists, Liverpool’s confidence in their position remains palpable.

Ben Jacobs Says…

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT:

“Liverpool are still there, but they don’t tend to pay above the odds. They don’t tend to inflate the market because they know that it may then hamper them on other deals.

But I still think that, from Liverpool’s perspective, they believe that somewhere around £45million or even slightly less might be enough to get this one over the line.

The reason for that is because I’m told it’s not just a money-based deal, and Southampton know this as well. Lavia has indicated a clear preference to join Liverpool.

We wait and see now whether a third bid is tabled, but Liverpool are still there. They’re still talking, and they’re still cautiously optimistic that a deal can be had for Lavia and for under that £50million mark.”

Despite the pursuit of Lavia, Liverpool are exploring other options. They are reportedly eyeing Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich and Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City as potential alternatives.

This strategic approach stems from the departure of key midfield figures such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, leaving a gap that the club is keen to address.
