Throw-in coach of Liverpool, Thomas Gronnemark has announced that he would be leaving the club after being with the Reds for 5 seasons.
The Denmark international has been with the Reds on a consultancy basis for the last five years. However, he has taken to Twitter and has revealed that he would be parting ways with the Anfield club.
“All good things come to an end. Liverpool and I have decided not to continue our agreement about the throw-in coaching after five great seasons.
I´m proud of being a part of taking LFC from 18th to 1st in the Premier League on throw-ins under pressure.
Since then, 25 professional clubs have hired me based on the impressive development in Liverpool – and I´ve been part of 14 titles, promotions and teams punching above their weight. The last seasons didn´t allow me to work as much with the throw-ins as I wanted – and therefore it is natural and expectable that we say thanks for this time now.
Thank you for a great time and cooperation, to Liverpool FC and Jurgen Klopp, the staff and players. We had a fantastic ride.”
Gronnemark’s last throw of the dice at Liverpool
The 47-year-old has helped Klopp and his team, albeit very little, in managing the game much better. It might seem a bit comical to hear the term, ‘throw-in coach.’ But the eccentric Dane has earned plaudits for transforming the way the Reds approach these restarts.
As he speaks of in his Twitter post, Gronnemark became a wanted man as Liverpool gained immense success. Sure, it was Klopp’s genius and tactics behind the Reds’ recent success, but all the other coaches’ work couldn’t be ignored.
Obviously, his work only accounted for a very small part of the Reds’ success. The throw-ins can’t be the reason for Liverpool’s way of play. But it was yet another show of how committed Klopp is to the ‘marginal games’ of elite football.
We could be sure that no other team would go so deep in the way their teams play. Moreover, while being in such a competitive league alongside many powerhouses, you need perfection in all departments.
Meanwhile, the work of Gronnemark at Liverpool could not be denied. However, with things changing at the club, it seems like a good move to part ways.
It is now to be seen whether the Reds could emulate the Dane’s work without him.
