Manchester City star Phil Foden underwent surgery for appendicitis ahead of the Premier League game against Liverpool this weekend, putting injury concerns to rest.
The Stockport-born midfielder withdrew from the England squad ahead of their clash against Ukraine. The 22-year-old was expected to play a significant part in that match. Besides, after only lasting 12 minutes in England’s 2-1 win over Italy, he was forced to be taken off.
However, he suffered acute appendicitis that ruled him out of National duty and probably for a few more weeks of club action.
Foden injury: How long is he out for?
Even though the Englishman has gone under the knife already, it is still unclear for how long he will be out of action. However, he might surely miss the next crucial fixtures for Man City, the latest being against Liverpool over the weekend.
Furthermore, this could be a blow for City as they have crucial weeks ahead including the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern. Even in the League, with City chasing Arsenal, the current champions would certainly need all the firepower they possess.
However, Pep would surely miss Foden in the clash against Liverpool. The 22-year-old has directly contributed to five goals in nine appearances against the Reds.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have released a statement on the website regarding the injury to Foden.
“Manchester City can confirm Phil Foden has left the England squad after undergoing surgery in London for acute appendicitis.
Phil will now return to Manchester to begin rehabilitation. He will not be fit for this weekend’s Premier League game at home to Liverpool and it is unclear at this stage how long he will be unavailable for. Everyone at Manchester City wishes Phil a speedy recovery.”
With Liverpool 7 points off of the Champions League spot, they would be looking for nothing short of 3 points. All in all, it would be interesting to see how City would fare without Foden.
