The agent of Lecce prospect Patrick Dorgu has urged him to reject a potential move to Liverpool this summer, for the time-being at least.
Dorgu has come to light as a possible recruit for the Reds, having impressed in Lecce’s U19 team last season.
But speaking to bold.dk about his client’s future, agent Kingsley Ogbdodo has claimed that he’ll be advising the 18-year-old to stay away from Anfield, for now.
“Liverpool want him. Liverpool have been watching him and interested in him for some time, but if he goes there, he will play in the U23s,” Ogbodo said. “It’s not the best thing for him, so I advise him not to. They can offer him a lot of money, but that’s not what we’re looking for right now. We focus on his career, development and playing time.
Liverpool are obviously not the only club that want him. There are many clubs here in England that are watching him. Manchester City watched him when he played against England for the U19 national team in Hobro, Denmark. Lecce’s scout has also told me that Barcelona are also keeping an eye on Patrick because he is a huge talent.
We want him to stay at Lecce for a little longer. Two more seasons so he can mature and gain experience. So when he moves on to a bigger club in a couple of seasons, we know at that point that he’s ready for it.”
Dorgu advised staying amidst interest from Liverpool
This might seem like a harsh headline, advising a talented youngster to not go when a big club like Liverpool comes knocking. However, if we think about this, it might be better to wait- for both parties.
The club might not want to rush into things and sign the talented youngster after just one great season. Moreover, the player needs to be completely mature before challenging for a place in the starting XI. Else, he might be sent on loans and his career might just take a wrong turn.
Also, it would just put a lot of pressure on the young shoulders, under which he might crack. There are a lot of such instances in world football.
However, we have seen young talent bloom further when given a chance in a big club. But we do see a lot of ‘wasted talent’ after they move to a big club after impressing in just one season.
It remains to be seen whether the Dane takes his agent’s advice on board. The Reds’ fans obviously wouldn’t complain if he did end up at Anfield this summer.
There would be a lot of people waiting to watch the exciting prospect. It is to be seen what the teenager would decide for his career.
