Napoli have joined the competitive race to secure the signature of Celta Vigo’s young sensation, Gabri Veiga, this summer.

Veiga, the Spanish midfielder, showcased his brilliance during the 2022/23 season netting 11 goals and providing four assists in La Liga.

Veiga’s Sensational Performance

His exceptional performance hasn’t gone unnoticed, drawing attention from English Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

Despite his tender age of 21, Veiga’s astute decision-making and adept ball-carrying skills in the final third reflect a maturity beyond his years. This has led to interest from English clubs, as reported by football.london.

Carlos Mourino on Gabri Veiga

Carlos Mourino, the president of Celta Vigo, has made it clear that Veiga won’t be sold for anything less than his €40 million (£34 million) release clause.

Napoli have initiated the bidding with an offer of €30 million (£25 million). Celta Vigo promptly turned down them, standing firm on their valuation of the talented playmaker.

Mourino voiced his frustration earlier this year, acknowledging the inevitable sale of Veiga:

“We do not want to sell Gabri Veiga, but they are going to buy him from us, and there is nothing we can do. We know some of their offers, and it is impossible to get there.”

Chelsea

Rumours previously linked Chelsea’s interest in Veiga with the completion of Mason Mount’s transfer to Manchester United.

The Blues, originally seeking a defensive midfielder, might now consider adding Veiga to their squad alongside Lesley Ugochukwu.

In June, reports indicated that Chelsea had engaged with Veiga regarding a potential move.

The departure of players like Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount has left space in Chelsea’s midfield, potentially paving the way for a new addition.

Arsenal

Arsenal also eye midfield reinforcement, with players like Mohammed Kudus linked to the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are in the midst of a midfield rebuild after selling Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. The Reds’ interest in Veiga remains palpable, with three bids for Romeo Lavia rejected from Southampton.

Napoli Steady on Their Pursuit of Gabri Veiga

Napoli, showing a more steadfast interest, have made a second bid for Veiga.

They intensified their pursuit ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano revealed a £25.8 million bid, swiftly rebuffed by Celta Vigo, who insists on meeting the £34.4 million release clause.

Liverpool

Liverpool, in contrast, have submitted an opening bid of £21.5 million. Reds proposed the option to loan Veiga back to Celta Vigo for the upcoming season.

As negotiations continue, Napoli remains in talks to secure the deal promptly.

Amidst the ongoing transfer drama, it’s clear that Veiga’s multifaceted midfield abilities make him a sought-after prospect for clubs looking to bolster their squads.

While competition intensifies, Napoli’s pursuit seems particularly determined, suggesting a potentially exciting outcome for the talented Spanish midfielder.
