Jurgen Klopp has attracted interest from DFB as a replacement for Hansi Flick and Xabi Alonso could potentially be the next Liverpool boss.
Germany have been pretty disappointing on the international stage for the last few months. Recently they faced a 4-1 loss against Japan on Sunday in an international friendly.
Thus, this result made DFB (the German FA) terminate Hansi Flick from the national team manager role. Moreover, this is the first time DFB fired a national manager since the job role was created in 1926.
This was the fourth loss for the Nationalelf in their fifth outing with only one draw which came against Ukraine.
They also failed to progress further from the group stage in World Cup 2022 last winter. Rudi Voller has currently taken charge as the caretaker manager.
Could Xabi Alonso succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager?
Amid the sacking of Flick, Jurgen Klopp’s name as a permanent replacement has been doing rounds for quite some time now.
According to earlier reports, German media even ‘begged’ the current Reds boss to take up the Germany job.
Although Klopp extended his Liverpool contract in the summer of 2022 until the end of the 2025-26 season, he commented that the job would be a ‘great honour’.
Reports even confirmed that DFB would allow him to complete the season at Anfield. And in this situation, the Merseysiders identified Xabi Alonso as their future boss.
The Spaniard has appeared in over 200 matches for the English giants between 2004 and 2009. And he has impressed as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen in recent times.
After joining in 2022, the 41-year-old saved the German side from relegation and took them to the semi-finals of the Europa League. And this was enough to earn him a contract extension until 2026.
However, as per a report via Sport Bild, the former Reds player has a ‘secret agreement’ in his contract. This would allow him to leave Leverkusen’s job, if a suitable offer comes, without any complications.
Although the terms and conditions are ‘secret’, it’s safe to say LFC would face less trouble in bringing in Alonso.
And considering his track record, the English club could secure a good replacement for Klopp if he chooses to leave anytime soon.
