Although Xabi Alonso has committed to his current job at Bayer Leverkusen for the coming seasons despite interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich, he can become the Reds manager in future.

The imminent departure of Jurgen Klopp from Anfield at the end of the season has sparked one of the most interesting managerial sagas in recent history.

The Merseyside club had been eager to replace the successful German tactician with the in-form Xabi Alonso.

The young manager is already doing wonders in his first full season with German side Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and the Europa League at only 42.

Leverkusen have almost secured the league title as they are already 13 points clear of second-placed defending champions Bayern Munich.

In the Europa League, the Spaniard has guided the team to the quarter-final of the competition where they will face West Ham United.

Heartbreak for Liverpool As They Will Not Have Xabi Alonso As Manager

These impressive achievements, coupled with the profile of being a former Red, made him the perfect candidate to be the successor to Klopp.

However, amid all the speculations and rumours, Alonso confirmed that he will not be leaving the German side at the end of the season and his commitment to the Leverkusen project.

The Anfield giants have already started to work to find a proper replacement for Klopp and currently Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim emerges as the frontrunner.

But the talk of Xabi Alonso becoming Liverpool manager is not completely out of the window. Even though it is not happening soon, no one can predict correctly what will happen in the coming years.

Projected Career Path of Xabi Alonso

The decision of Alonso to continue at Leverkusen might seem arrogant at first glance despite interest from several top-flight clubs, but it is the right choice on many grounds.

Firstly, it is his first full season at the senior level and the risk of being a one-season wonder is very high.

In the recent past, we have seen two contemporaries of Xabi, PL midfield legends Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard fail at the bigger stage even though they impressed everyone initially.

Secondly, the allure of managing Real Madrid, with some of the most exciting talents like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Camavinga, Endrick and potentially Kylian Mbappe, when Carlo Ancelotti eventually leaves is quite exciting.

The speculated departure for the legendary Italian coach is at the end of the 2024-25 season. By then the Spaniard would also gather some more experience to unleash his full potential.

Ultimately, when he will have managed Los Blancos for an ample amount of time, he will be looking for the next challenge ahead.

And that is when his dear Anfield will come to his mind. The long-awaited reunion will finally happen. Never lose hope Kopites!
