Chelsea reach €120M agreement for Liverpool target: Reds have not agreed personal terms

In a groundbreaking development, Chelsea have taken the first step in securing Napoli forward Victor Osimhen for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Premier League outfit has reportedly reached a significant agreement with Napoli, settling on a substantial €120 million fee for the 25-year-old striker.

Earlier reports had linked Osimhen to Liverpool, with claims in October 2023 suggesting that the Reds had reached a personal terms agreement with the Nigerian international.

Valter De Maggio, speaking on Televomero, previously indicated Liverpool’s interest, stating,

“There would be frequent contacts, but I just learned something else: there would be agreements already reached.”

Said De Maggio.

However, it has since been clarified that these purported agreements were exclusively between Liverpool and the player, not involving Napoli.

The speculation surrounding Liverpool’s pursuit of Osimhen has proven false, despite genuine interest.

Chelsea’s audacious move for Osimhen comes amid Financial Fair Play (FFP) pressure, as the club aims to fulfil its obligations despite reported attempts to exploit “contract loopholes.”

Since Todd Boehly assumed ownership, succeeding Roman Abramovich, Chelsea have invested over £1 billion in transfer fees, and this figure could rise further with this ambitious move.

The London club, under new ownership, is prepared to activate Osimhen’s €120 million release clause, as reported by Italian outlet Il Mattino via Calcio Napoli.

Chelsea’s pursuit of the Nigerian striker is set to unfold in the summer transfer window, and it is now evident that Liverpool will not be competing with them for Osimhen’s signature in this particular endeavour.
