Liverpool FC are keen on signing Fulham’s Joao Palhinha in the summer. The rumors have been accelerating from the Reds after suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to relegation-stricken Bournemouth FC.

The defensive midfielder has been impressive in the Premier League with his recent performances helping Fulham to sit strongly in the top half of the league standing.

Fans have already begun comparing the 27-year-old to former veteran Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano. As both of them seem a lot similar in their tough tackles, interceptions, and ability to disrupt opposition attacks.

Palhinha also has a very consistent passing ability. He is known for his high work rate and discipline on the pitch. Some of the qualities which Liverpool seems to be lacking in their midfield area this season.

The departure of Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain for free in 2021 created a vacancy in the squad. The gap which Liverpool have been unable to fill till this day. Palhinha’s attributes make him an ideal fit for Klopp’s system which relies on a strong midfield to control the game.

The Reds will be looking for a midfield overhaul this summer with the Englishman Jude Bellingham being their priority transfer target.

With the likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, and Naby Keita reaching the end of their contracts, the Dortmund midfielder will not be the only one moving to Anfield.

However, having over four years left in his contract Fulham are reluctant to let go of their star midfielder.

But The Cottagers may be considering it if a lucrative offer arrives. However, signing the midfielder will not be an easy task for Liverpool.

Clubs in the race to sign Joao Palhinha

Many other top clubs such as Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with the player. Thus, making it a potentially competitive market for his services.

Liverpool are currently missing that lack of intent in the middle of the park and Joao Palhinha will definitely help the Merseyside club in that aspect.
