Trent Alexander-Arnold once again excelled in his new role as Liverpool battled to a 1-0 victory against Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds defeated The Cottagers at Anfield to earn their fifth straight Premier League victory, with Mohamed Salah scoring the game-winning goal.
The Merseysiders followed up their thrilling victory against Tottenham on Sunday with another victory at home, keeping their slim hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive as the season nears its conclusion. The Egyptian scored from the penalty spot for his 28th goal of the season.
Goalkeeper & Defenders
Alisson (8.5/10)
As the season draws to a close, Alisson has been unquestionably Liverpool’s Player of the Year. At Anfield, there was more proof of this, with the Brazilian denying Carlos Vinicius twice in quick succession—once before halftime and yet again just after. a fantastic goalie.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (9/10)
Trent continued to impress in his new role as a wandering midfielder in another game. The 24-year-old exuded talent with the ball at his feet and challenged Bernd Leno early on. He also just missed the goal from distance. When necessary, he also played right back brilliantly, and he just exudes more happiness on the field than he did a month or two ago.
Ibrahima Konate (7/10)
Trent’s recent freedom to play in midfield hasn’t made Konate appear fully at ease, but he was effective here. On his 50th appearance, the Frenchman used his speed and strength effectively, including one perfectly timed tackle inside the area that stopped a potential threat. the top center-back for Liverpool at the time.
Van Dijk (7/10)
Van Dijk struggled against Tottenham last weekend, and he still isn’t the all-conquering titan who, between 2018 and 2022, was the finest in the world at his position. Fair enough, he did make a crucial clearing early on to stop a score, and overall, he was solid, but it is now simpler to get by him.
Kostas Tsimikas (6.5/10)
Andy Robertson was replaced by Tsimikas in the starting lineup, although he had a hit-and-miss performance. He struggled in a modified role, and he didn’t always appear powerful in his position, like his fellow left-back teammate, but he produced a crucial interception as Fulham broke away in the first half.
Midfielders
Fabinho (7/10)
Even if he wasn’t quite at his previous level against Fulham, Fabinho’s form has been significantly improved in recent weeks. The 29-year-old kept things orderly in midfield, maintaining possession in constrained spaces, and he now exudes such a sense of assurance.
Henderson (7/10)
Henderson’s performances have been forgettable all season, but in Liverpool’s midfield, he played rather well overall. The captain worked hard and helped Trent find space in midfield, but his technical ability was lacking, as seen by one terrible skied effort right before halftime.
Curtis Jones (7.5/10)
Jones has recently developed into a different player as a result of having more playing time, and on Wednesday night, he attracted attention once more. The young player once more gave his best Gini Wijnaldum impersonation, guarding the ball, establishing connections with teammates, and generally serving as an important cog in the system. He will be a valuable squad member for the team next season based on the data; perhaps others have written him off too soon.
Forwards
Mohamed Salah (7.5/10)
Even though he may not have always played at his absolute best, he currently has 29 goals for the year and is the first Reds player since the team’s 1962 promotion to score 18 or more league goals in six successive seasons. Salah was a constant danger; after some excellent movement, he missed from a tight angle then converted a penalty to start the scoring.
Luis Diaz (6.5/10)
After being out for so long due to injury, Diaz’s goal last weekend was a nice moment, but his performance against the Cottagers was quieter. The Colombian was initially a vibrant presence; one of his shots was deflected just wide, and his unpredictable nature presented a challenge for defenders. However, as the minutes went by, they naturally faded a little.
Darwin Nunez (5/10)
Nunez replaced Cody Gakpo on the team, although he was usually underwhelming and didn’t seize the moment. Even though he earned the penalty that Salah scored from, his touch and judgment were poor, and he had little effect on the game.
Substitutions
Cody Gakpo (7/10)
Lovely to watch once again; one outstanding run.
Andy Robertson (6/10)
Without actually achieving anything, he seemed anxious to make a statement.
Diogo Jota (5/10)
Almost imperceptible, but did nothing wrong.
