Liverpool are unlikely to offer Thiago Alcantara a new contract and allow the Spaniard to leave the club for free in 2024.
As per reports from GOAL, the Reds do not have any plans regarding the contract extension of the 32-year-old midfielder. The former Bayern man has remained on the sidelines for the most part of the season and has undergone hip surgery as well.
He arrived from Bayern in the summer of 2020 and was one of the best arrivals into the PL that summer. He was destined to be competing with arguably the best midfielder in the world, Kevin De Bruyne, and stop the Man City domination.
However, things haven’t gone exactly that way as the Spaniard has never started more than 20 league games for Liverpool. That is mainly due to his constant injury records.
The midfielder is one of the most technically gifted players of this generation. He is a joy to watch while playing regularly and injury-free. However, the Reds’ fans saw only a glimpse of him as he has had frequent injury trouble.
Liverpool to end ties with Thiago when his contract ends
Thiago played only 28 games in a possible 52 games across all competitions for Liverpool this season. He developed a hip injury in February and would later undergo surgery on it at the start of May.
The campaign had started well for Thiago back in July when he shone at Wembley against Manchester City in the Community Shield. But his injury problems would soon begin.
Now, Liverpool appears willing to risk Thiago leaving for free come 2024 by not offering him a new contract. He remains a leading part of Klopp’s plans when fit. But Thiago’s injuries will likely leave him playing for his future at Anfield when the 23/24 season starts.
