According to Miguel Delaney, writing in his newsletter for The Independent, Doucoure genuinely thought that a move to Liverpool was possible on Wednesday.
Liverpool made a shocking signing on Wednesday night by roping in Japanese international, Wataru Endo. The Reds, however, might also be closing in on Bayern’s midfielder, Ryan Gravenberch.
Gravenberch and Endo may well be the two that Liverpool bring in, but at differing times during this window, other options have looked viable.
One man who has been linked to the Reds rather heavily is Cheick Doucoure, and, once again, this week, those rumours cropped up.
And as per reports, the Malian thought that he would get an opportunity to move to Anfield on Wednesday.
But, there are reports contradicting that as well. Now that Endo has arrived and Gravenberch is set to follow, this move is looking less likely to happen.
Doucoure thought he could get his Liverpool move
Ever since his move to Crystal Palace, the 23-year-old has been a crucial player in the Eagle’s young squad. He is seen as the future prospect who fits in perfectly for Roy Hodgson.
After a great season, he has attracted interest and Liverpool have been long-linked to the midfielder. However, after a roller-coaster of a transfer window, the Reds were close to signing the player. Or atleast the player thought so.
“Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure thought a move may be possible on Wednesday. The London club have already sold a lot of talent this summer, with more to go. Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat is being considered, but he has already been persuaded by interest from Manchester United – which is admittedly dependent on a sale.”
Delaney wrote for The Independant
Liverpool are noted fans of Doucoure, but the reality is that he’s been priced out of this move. The Malian has had a price tag of £70m attached to him by Palace which is a bit on the higher side.
For a player of Doucoure’s experience, it makes no sense to shell out that amount of cash. But we cannot blame the club for setting the price tag.
Especially, after Caicedo was being sold for a record fee of £115m, after just one top-flight season.
